Abstract
This paper presents a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approach to support function embodiment synthesis. The introduced models are able to connect interdisciplinary functional modeling and embodiment models in CAD systems. Free sketches are used, since they are an important carrier of information and a powerful medium in problem solving. Newly introduced model elements are able to link content of free sketches to other model elements in a formal way. Overall a traceability between embodiment, concepts, principles and functions is achieved. Further on benefits for development processes and the developers involved are discussed.
